David Chaney, Sr. Obituary

David Junior Chaney, Sr, age 85 of Cardington, Ohio, passed away peacefully Monday, February 5, 2018 in his home. 

David was born in Millersburg, Ohio on March 26, 1932 to the late Jack and Mary Chaney (Estepp). 

He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, where he served in the 76th Fighter-Interceptor Squadron and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal.  He was honorably discharged on August 31, 1959. 

After leaving the Air Force he worked several jobs until going to work in the City Of Delaware Ohio Fire Department for close to ten years.  Then he worked several odd jobs until going to work at Ranco, retiring in 1991.  After retirement he continued to work as a local security guard for several companies. 

David is survived by his wife of 64 years, Catherine (Hedges) Chaney; 6 children, David Junior (Linda) Chaney II , Susan (Kenneth) Somerlot, Penny Harmon, Shirley Fegley, Vickie (Craig) Carter, and Timothy (Gina) Chaney; 2 grandchildren, Jim Chaney and Amy Dietz who lived with David and Catherine during their childhood; 8 other grandchildren, Jennifer Somerlot Bump, David J Chaney III, Tammy Chaney Lutttrel, Kristina Somerlot, David Fegley, Troy Carter, Natasha Carter Dawidowicz; and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. 

David will be remembered by family and friends for his story telling, his love of nature, his love of animals and his sense of humor. 

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his step-father, Gail Roberts; 2 brothers, Omar and Ted Chaney; 2 grandchildren, John Michael Chaney and Shannon Somerlot; and Poco, his beloved dog.

The Family would like to extend a special thank you to the Hospice of Morrow County for their loving care and the Department of Veterans Affairs for all their help.
