David O. Hughes, 79, passed peacefully on July 26, 2018.
He was born in Columbus, OH on March 10, 1939 to the late Charles and Harriet Hughes, Sr. David attended Central High School and served the United States Navy for one tour. He attended Central Seventh-day Adventist Church. David worked at Tuney’s Sunoco Auto Shop for several years as a mechanic. He also worked for Columbus Auto Parts, Worthington Foods and Service Experts, retiring in 2004.
He met the love of his life, Barbara Jean Moore at Columbus Auto Parts and they married on August 8, 1980. David was devoted to taking care of Barbara. David loved working on cars. Because he was so knowledgeable in auto repair, many people wanted him to service their cars. David also loved to work in his yard and was very handy around the house. He enjoyed crosswords, puzzles and Suduko.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara Jean; stepson, Kevin Moore; brothers: Harold (Rosetta) Hughes of Santa Rosa, CA, and John (Deena) Hughes, of Columbus, OH; sisters: Aletha Groce and Ella May Johnson, both of Columbus, OH; sister-in-law Blanch Hughes of Savannah, GA; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two great, great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
David was preceded in death by his father Charles Hughes, Sr., his mother Harriet Hill, stepfather John Hill, sisters Laura Louise Hughes and Mary Beth Hughes; brothers Charles Hughes, Kenneth Hughes and Dennis Hughes.
Visitation 10-11 a.m. Thursday, August 2 at Central Seventh Day Adventist Church, 80 S 18th St., where service will follow at 11 a.m. Burial Evergreen Cemetery.
