Elizabeth “Bette” King, age 89, passed away May 31, 2017 at Sunrise of Worthington.  

Preceded in death by husband William F. King, sisters Donna Galeti and Rosemary Coles, and brother George “Bill” Bodenhamer, nephew Mitchell and nieces Pamela and Rosemary.  

Survived by sons, Andrew, Mark (Brenda Matthews), and Monty (Apple); daughter, Stephanie (Edward) King Taketa; grandchildren, TJ Blake, Jeremy, Matthew and Michael King, Renee and Miya Taketa; brother, Rodger (Esther) Bodenhamer; sister-in-law, Helen Bodenhamer; nephews, Joe, Bill, Chuck, and Russell; and nieces, Linda, Judy, Bette Ann, Becky, Kim, Monica, and Melissa.  

She loved music, theater, dance, and was an enthusiastic supporter of the arts.  She traveled extensively and enjoyed experiencing other cultures and languages.  She was politically active throughout her life and cared deeply about and supported women’s issues and rights.  She was an active volunteer throughout her life for various organizations and schools, including volunteering with friends through St. Vincent de Paul outreach ministry at St. Thomas More Newman Center, OSU Campus and was a member of the Paulist Society at St. Thomas More Newman Center.  

Bette was an active presence in the lives of her grandchildren and delighted in their lives and activities.  She will be dearly missed by family and friends.  She was a dear friend to many residents and staff at Sunrise of Worthington, where she was wonderfully loved and cared for in her most recent years.

The family wishes to thank all of her friends who cared for her, sent cards, visited, and transported her to and from mass on Sundays. A special thank you to Anne Mischo, Andy Rudy, and Father Vincent McKiernan.

A Memorial Mass is planned for 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, June 8 at St. Thomas More Newman Center, 64 W. Lane Avenue, Columbus, 43201 with a reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, please give a donation in her name to St. Thomas More Newman Center or any organization of your choice.
