GEORGE T BUTTS

George T. Butts, age 86, of Columbus, passed away Friday, May 12, 2017 at home.  

Born in Oklahoma City, Okla. on October 9, 1930, he was the son of the late Leslie and Pauline (Danhauer) Butts.  

A graduate of The University of Oklahoma, he earned a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Science, and pursued further graduate studies at Oberlin College.  He was an avid participant in the Oberlin College radio station, WOBC. At Oberlin, he met his beloved wife of 49 years, Laura Whiteside, of Boston.  George was a research chemist, beginning his career at Colton Chemical in northern Ohio, and continuing at the Franklin Glue Company (now Franklin International) in Columbus for over 25 years, where he became Chief Chemist.  Later in life, he built a successful software consulting business, MicroGen, and ran several SIGs (Special Interest Groups) for the Columbus Computer Society.  He had many interests and hobbies, from electronics to photography, woodworking, ham radio and lapidary.  He was a long-time member of the Westbridge Camera Club.  He held a ham license (KC8T), and was a member of the Central Ohio Amateur Radio Emergency Service for over 20 years.  

He was preceded in death by his wife, Laura Whiteside Butts in 2004.  

He is survived by daughters, Audrey Butts (Tony Lockhart) of Two Harbors, Minn. and Brenda Caprotti of Evanston, Ill.; sons, Daniel (Wendy) Christian of Fairfield, Conn. and Alan of St. Paul, Minn.; 7 grandchildren, Rosie and Samuel Lockhart, Morgan and Casey Durham, Allegra Caprotti, Brian and Gillian Christian.  

According to George's wishes, no viewing.  An informal memorial gathering for close family will be held.
