Preceded in death by husband, John Tompkins Sr.; father, Anthony Carter; mother, Nannie Carter Thompson; brothers, Wallace Edmonds and Lawrence (Darnell) Johnson.

Survived by children, Taneka Tompkins, John Tompkins Jr, Jermaine Tompkins, and Nelsolene Tompkins; two sisters, Delphine Mays and Alice Carter; nine grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
