Amina Theresa Alhaj-Omar

In the memory of the beloved Amina Alhaj-Omar,

                The family would like to honor their loved one with a brief and loving obituary. Please read the following passage keeping Amina in your thoughts and prayers.

Amina was a soft and kind soul that demonstrated the utmost compassion and empathy for any person that crossed her path. Amina obtained her bachelor’s degree in Criminology from the Ohio State University. She was constantly searching for different ways to help others, so much so that she pursued a higher education in social work. During her master’s program at the Ohio State University, she interned through CRIS, Community Refugee & Immigration Services, working closely with the victims of ongoing crime cases. She worked hard to pursue her admirable dream of fighting for people.

Alongside Amina’s career goals, she was family oriented. Her personality was developed with the great effect of her family including her parents, Hassan Alhaj-Omar and the late Theresa Alhaj-Omar, as well as four sisters she cherished including Miriam, Zenab, Sara and Jana. She would always remind her friends of how important family was to her and that ‘family trumps everything’. No matter how intense or silly a fight, she would always say “that’s my family, I’ll always have their backs no matter what.” Amina was also very close to her beloved mother whose sudden passing in January of 2018, took a toll on the entire family. In many ways, her loss contributed to shaping her into the warm and affectionate person we will all miss tremendously.

Most people who truly knew Amina immediately remember her laugh - it was contagious and brought happiness to everyone in the room. She had a way of making people feel comfortable and welcomed in any situation. Her personality was simply beautiful - a bubbly, shy, caring, funny, and loving human being inside and out.

We also wanted to take the time to explain the events that occurred leading to Amina’s death while respecting the family’s privacy. Many already know that Amina had been a missing person since June 10, 2023. After an extensive search, on July 12, 2023, they found Amina deceased in the quarry nearby.

We are devastated by our immense loss, but we also thank God every single day for blessing us with the privilege of knowing and loving her beautiful soul for the last twenty-five years. We ask that you take a minute to pray for Amina and her late mother Theresa. At this time, we implore the aid of God to help us persevere this great loss as well as give us the patience and strength to endure this great hardship. We will be looking forward to opportunities arising from this horrible situation for we believe bad things happen for good reasons.
