Charlene Garrison Obituary

Charlene “Charmie” Garrison, age 93, was born on October 14,1926 to Dossie and Mamie (Vanleer) Bell in Columbus, Ohio. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at a young age. Beginning her Christian journey at Christ Memorial Baptist Church, she then transferred to Second Baptist Church where she enjoyed long-term membership. For the past several years, Second Community Church became her beloved church home. On December 11, 2019, Charlene peacefully transition from this life to eternal life in the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Charlene’s life was characterized by her gift of hospitality. At Second Baptist Church she joyfully shared her spiritual gift as Kitchen Coordinator. At home she created a warm and loving environment for her family, which was also open and welcoming to youths, neighbors, and friends. Her warmth and kindness resulted in lifelong, trusting relationships.

Charlene cherished her family. She was a loving wife, a steadfast anchor and champion for her children, a tender, joyful grandmother, a caring daughter, and an always reliable sister, aunt, and friend.

Charlene was simply beautiful. Her sense of style - impeccable. Her joy of life - contagious.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Milton; parents, Dossie and Mamie; brother, Thomas; sisters, Molly, Lela Hargrove, Jaunita Brown, and Mable Hawkins; and a host of extended family.

Survived and missed by son, James II; daughters, Janice Clark, Joye (Tykie), and Jill Heard; grandchildren, Kellee Heard, Tracee (Ron) Wilson, Charles Clark, Charjan (Shameka) Clark; and former sons-in-law, Charles Clark and Rufus Heard.

Visitation 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. Saturday, December 28, 2019 at Second Community Church, 311 S. Highland Ave., with Memorial Service to follow.
