Evelyn McKitrick, age 96, passed away on June 27, 2021 at her home.
She was born on August 6, 1924 in Upper Arlington, daughter of Russell and Alice Means. She graduated from the Columbus School for Girls (1942) and Ohio State University (1946) where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority. She married Charles J. McKitrick on June 17, 1949. She belonged to Pleasure Guild and Twig 99 and was a life-long member of First Community Church where she served on the governing board. She was an active member of the Women’s Board of the Columbus Museum of Art. She and her husband were the head of the monthly art tours around Ohio for the Travel Committee of the Museum for 5 years.
Evelyn had many interests and hobbies. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed sewing, cooking, entertaining, reading, and collecting art with her husband. They traveled world-wide.
Preceded in death were her husband of 67 years, her brother, Russell Means Jr., and sister, Harriett Bradney.
She is survived by 2 daughters, Mary Benson (Sterling, IL) and Alice Vockel (Greensboro NC); 4 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
She was also blessed to have 3 amazing, loving caregivers who made her last 7 years rewarding and special: Debbie, Lisa, and Rick.
She spread love to so many, young and old, and was known for her wonderful smile. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Columbus Museum of Art or First Community Church.
A private service is planned.
