Walter Huffman Obituary

Walter Lyle Huffman, age 90, passed peacefully on May 4, 2020 after a short illness.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Conrad and Perdita Huffman; his sister, Beverly Kay Watt; and his grandson, David C. Huffman.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Kurt Huffman and Rebecca Gasper Huffman of Grandview; his daughter, Kathy Cook of Grove City; and his son and son-in law, Craig and Dan Huffman-McNulty of Kansas City; grandchildren, Joshua Cook and Natalie Cook; and great-grandchildren, Josh Cook, Jayla Cook, and Jackson Huffman.

Though marriages and choice, Lyle was surrounded by an expansive extended flock that he considered all his family, especially the children.

He was raised in, and spent his entire life in Columbus, but he spent many years working and skiing the slopes in Colorado. He served his country in two branches, the Army in post-war Germany and the Marines stateside. He owned his car wash business "Lyle's", sold insurance, and retired from Ohio Auto Auction. Lyle spent years in retirement working as a parking attendant for Mt. Carmel West hospital until its closing, and he absolutely loved this work.

He was an avid boater, water and snow skier, and more than anything late in life, he loved to feed the birds. When he moved recently from his long-term apartment to independent housing, his concern was for his birds.

He attended The Ohio State University and loved his Buckeyes; especially Women's Basketball, which he attended games regularly with his children. He played golf and loved to watch it on TV.

Lastly, he adored and was immensely proud of his children. He bragged about them always; to tell total strangers about their work and families. He’d simply talk to anyone about anything.

Lyle leaves a legacy of kindness and love.

Donations may be made to Capital City Hospice in his name.

Private arrangements at this time.  A memorial service may be planned in the future.
