We lived next to Tom and his family for several years on Dayton Avenue (their daughter Chandra even watched our sons once or twice). They remain our favorite neighbors in that house; Tom was always great to talk to when I was out raking or doing yard work. I ran into him at a convenience store earlier this summer and he told me about his recent prognosis. How does one respond to that? I told him I was sorry, and with his characteristic humor he laughed and replied, "yeah, me too!" I was thinking about him just last week and thought maybe . . . maybe something good had happened. He'd turned a corner. A test came back negative. Then my wife told me the news. My sincerest condolences to the family, and my highest regards to Tom . . . I will miss him.
